Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, keep information in the browser in much the same way. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) let a site use the ones strictly needed to provide the service you ask for, and require your consent for anything else.
Our site is built to need very few. As things stand, a visitor reading our pages is not given any analytics or advertising cookies by us.
Cookies we set ourselves
The site runs on WordPress. For ordinary visitors it sets no cookies of its own. WordPress does set login and session cookies, such as wordpress_logged_in, for the people who manage the site when they sign in to its admin area. Those are strictly necessary for that purpose, and you will not receive them unless you hold a login.
Analytics, only if switched on
Measurement is currently turned off, and no analytics script loads at all. Should we turn on Google Analytics in future, it is built to stay switched off until you agree to it. Your choice would then be saved in your browser's local storage under the name ssn_consent, so the question does not come back on every visit.
Once you agreed, Google Analytics would set cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID. These count visits and show which pages are read, and Google states that they last up to two years. We would update this policy, and its date, before any such change took effect.
The quote form is a third party
Our quote form is loaded in a frame from our CRM provider's own web address. Because it comes from another domain, that provider controls any cookies or storage used inside the frame. We do not read those cookies. How the provider handles the details you submit is covered in our privacy policy.
The service area map
The map on our contact page uses the Leaflet library, served from our own site, with map tiles drawn from OpenStreetMap. To fetch each tile, your browser contacts the OpenStreetMap tile servers, which receive your IP address and browser details as part of any web request. The OpenStreetMap Foundation publishes its own privacy policy for those servers.
WhatsApp and email links
Pressing a WhatsApp button takes you to WhatsApp, either in its app or on its website. Once you are there, WhatsApp's own cookie and privacy policies apply. An email link simply opens your own mail program, so it involves no cookie.
Fonts and other files
Apart from the quote form and the map tiles described above, the typefaces, scripts and images on the site are served from our own host. Loading them does not send your details to a font service or a content delivery network.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and site data in its settings. Blocking cookies across the board can stop some sites working properly, though it will not affect reading our pages. If analytics is ever switched on, clearing this site's stored data in your browser will reset your consent choice and you will be asked again.
Questions about cookies can be sent to info@supremeskylightsnewport.co.uk or by WhatsApp to 07880 284133.
