A finished rooflight reveal seen from below at night, the glass dark and a lamp lit low in the room

Every rooflight, roof window, lantern and sun tunnel we install or replace comes with a 10-year guarantee on our workmanship, and you receive it in writing. It covers the work itself: how the unit was set into your roof, and the work around the opening that formed part of the job.

The product is a separate matter. The glass, the frame and any motor or control are made by a manufacturer, and a fault in how they were made falls under that maker's own warranty. Knowing which is which from the start makes any later claim quicker to sort out.

What our workmanship means

Workmanship is the part of the job done by our hands, on your roof and in your room. On a new opening, it takes in fitting the rooflight or roof window into the roof and the work around the opening that we quoted for. On a replacement, it covers taking the old unit out and fitting the new one in its place. If a fault shows up in that work during the ten years, the guarantee is how you raise it with us.

Installation and replacement are both covered, across every product we fit: roof lanterns, flat roof rooflights, roof windows including VELUX windows, electric opening rooflights, energy-efficient rooflights, walk-on rooflights, conservation rooflights and sun tunnels, as well as the replacement of misted rooflights.

Our workmanship guarantee

  • Installing a new unit, whichever product it is
  • Fitting a replacement unit into an existing opening
  • Work around the opening that was part of the quoted job
  • Ten years, given to you in writing

The maker's warranty

  • Faults in how the product itself was made
  • Its length and conditions, which the maker sets

Where the maker's warranty takes over

A rooflight reaches your house as a finished product. If something goes wrong because of how it was made, such as a sealed unit whose edge seal gives way or a motor that stops responding, that is for the manufacturer's warranty, on the manufacturer's terms. Those terms differ from one maker and one product to the next, so keep any warranty paperwork for the unit in the same place as our guarantee.

From the floor of a room it is not always clear which side a problem sits on. A damp mark on a ceiling, for instance, could have more than one cause. Tell us what you can see, and we can help you work out whether it is the fitting or the product. Where it is the product, we can point you to its maker.

What sits outside the guarantee

The guarantee covers our workmanship. It does not extend to damage caused by someone else, such as another trade working on the roof or in the room after we finished. A fault in the product, as above, belongs with the maker's warranty.

Your rights as a consumer under UK law are separate from this guarantee, and nothing in it reduces them.

How to raise a claim

Send us a message by email to info@supremeskylightsnewport.co.uk or on WhatsApp to 07880 284133. Either one reaches us, and both leave you with a written record of when you got in touch.

What to put in the message

  1. Where The address where we did the work, and the name the job was booked under.
  2. What you have noticed Where it is, when you first saw it, and whether it changes with the weather or the time of day.
  3. Photos One or two from inside the room, plus one from outside if you can see the roof safely from the ground or a window.
  4. Your guarantee The date on the written guarantee if you have it to hand. If it has gone missing, tell us that too.

The guarantee among your other papers

A rooflight job leaves you with more than one document. Before any work there is a free survey and a fixed written quote. Where the work is notifiable, we handle the Building Regulations notification, with local authority building control or a registered building control approver. In Wales, putting in a new rooflight will generally call for Building Regulations approval, and the Welsh Building Regulations guide for skylights explains when that applies.

Keep the guarantee together with the maker's warranty for the unit and anything building control issued for the job, so that everything about the rooflight sits in one folder.

Questions about the guarantee

Does the guarantee cover a replacement rooflight as well as a new one?

Yes. The 10-year workmanship guarantee applies to replacement work as well as to new installations, and that includes replacing a misted unit.

My rooflight has misted between the panes. Who should I contact?

Misting between the panes can come from a fault in the sealed unit, and a fault in how the unit was made sits with the maker's warranty. Send us a photo by email or WhatsApp all the same. We can tell you whether it looks like the product or the fitting, and point you to the maker if it is the product.

Are the blind and the motor covered?

How they were fitted is our workmanship, so that part is covered by our guarantee. A fault in the blind or the motor as made is a product fault, and it belongs with that maker's warranty.

How do I make a claim?

Write to info@supremeskylightsnewport.co.uk or message 07880 284133 on WhatsApp. Give the address of the job, describe what you have seen, and add a photo if you can take one without climbing anywhere.

What isn't covered?

Faults in how the product was made, which sit with its maker's warranty, and damage by anyone other than us after the job was finished. Your legal rights as a consumer apply either way.
